Seward Tourney Results, Wayne High Posts 1-2 Pool Play Record

SEWARD – The Wayne High volleyball team managed to pick up one victory during their pool play of the Seward Tournament over the weekend with tough competition.

From Seward Middle School, Wayne High joined three other teams in Pool B while Seward High School featured Wahoo, Seward, Omaha Concordia and South Sioux City. There were no cross-over games played, just pool play champions crowned.

The Blue Devil volleyball team started the day by sweeping Omaha Mercy (25-22, 25-21) but suffered losses in straight sets to both Broken Bow (25-14, 25-20) and Lincoln Lutheran (25-19, 25-17) to close out Saturday. After going 1-2, Wayne High is now 7-7 on the season.

From the victory over Omaha Mercy, Mady Sievers (two blocks, one solo) and Kate Hill (three digs) both finished with three kills a piece while Sydney Redden came away with eight digs. Kiara Krusemark tallied two kills and eight set assists. Other kills came from Emily Longe (three blocks/two solo), Rubie Klausen (three digs) and Katy Jones all with one kill. WHS finished with six service aces led by Hill with two as Krusemark, Redden, Sievers and Klausen all had one.

During the loss to Broken Bow, the team who eliminated WHS in the Class C1 state tournament last year, Hill posted five kills, a solo block and a service ace while Klausen added four kills and a team-high 15 digs. Longe came away with three kills and two blocks as did Sievers with three kills. Redden also had eight digs with Krusemark totaling 18 set assists.

In the loss to Lincoln Lutheran, last year’s C1 state champion, Klausen recorded six kills and 10 digs followed by Hill will five kills. Redden came away with nine digs and Longe tallied four kills and a block. Krusemark finished with 16 set assists, eight digs, a block and two kills.

Broken Bow was crowned Pool B champions with a three-set victory over Lincoln Lutheran (25-21, 18-25, 25-23) and swept Omaha Mercy (25-8, 25-12). Lincoln Lutheran also swept Omaha Mercy (25-15, 25-16)

The Wayne High volleyball team will next visit Norfolk Catholic on Tuesday, September 22 before competing in the O’Neill triangular with Hartington Cedar Catholic this Thursday, September 24 to get back on the winning track. WHS will also participate in the Wisner-Pilger Tournament on Saturday, September 26.

 

Wayne’s C team played also competed in the Wisner-Pilger Reserve Round Robin Tournament on Saturday going 2-1. Wayne opened with a three-set victory over West Point-Beemer (25-16, 24-26, 15-5). (Scoring/Aces) Faith Powicki (7-2); Tasha Petersen (7-2); Gabbi Judd (7-1); Sydney Baker (7-2); Leah Perry (5-3) and Anna Kaup (6-1).

Wayne then defeated David City in straight sets ( 25-12, 25-17). Faith Powicki (11-3); Tasha Petersen (5-2); Gabbi Judd (3-1); Sydney Baker (3-0); Leah Perry (2-0) and Anna Kaup (8-2).

Wayne finished the day being swept by Battle Creek (12-25, 24-26). Tasha Petersen (2-1); Gabbi Judd (1-0); Sydney Baker (3-2); Leah Perry (7-1) and Anna Kaup (2-0).
