Seventh Inning Rally Falls Short For Post 81, Class C/A Results

GERING – After a Sunday split in the Class B Senior American Legion state baseball tournament, Wakefield Post 81 was back in action to begin the week with an elimination game.

From Oregon Trail Park in Gering, the Wakefield Post 81 Seniors took on Bennington. Both teams entered the day with one loss.

Bennington jumped ahead early with a four-run first inning before Wakefield Post 81 scored a run in the second and Bennington answered with a run in the top of the third to lead 5-1. Bennington then started to pull away outscoring Wakefield 3-1 in the sixth as Post 81 made a charge in the bottom of the seventh with three of their own runs but fell short 8-5. Wakefield Post 81 ends their Senior campaign at 22-10 and 1-2 at state.

Josh Lutt paced Post 81 at the plate with three singles, a RBI and one run scored while Hagan Miller (run scored) and Esgar Godinez (RBI) both doubled. Nolan Belt singled, scored a run and drove in a run; Parker Lehmkuhl singled and scored; Lukas Oswald singled; Trevor DeBoer added a sac-fly RBI; Julio Sanchez accounted for a RBI as Couy Johnson also scored.

Noah Lamprecht suffered the loss on the hill.

 

Other day three scores saw: Hickman defeat McCook (13-1) in the first elimination game while Alliance handed Springfield their first loss (10-8) in the winner’s bracket Monday night.

Opening the day Tuesday will be Hickman vs. Springfield at 5 p.m. CT followed by Bennington vs. Alliance at 8 p.m. CT.

The Class B Senior Legion state baseball championship game is slated for Wednesday, July at 31 at 11 a.m. MT in Gering.

 

Monday results from the Class C Senior Legion state baseball tourney in Syracuse began with a couple postponed Sunday games. BDS held off Hartington (8-7) while DCB topped Pender (3-2) before the elimination games featured Syracuse defeating Hartington (4-3) as Pender knocked out Valentine (8-0). The winner’s bracket saw DCB defeat BDS (4-3).

Note 1 will take place, where parings for games 12 & 13 will not match previous opponents against each other unless absolutely necessary.

Tuesday’s schedule will begin with an elimination game between BDS vs. Pender at 5 p.m. followed by a one-loss Syracuse vs. undefeated DCB at 8 p.m. CT.

The Class C Sr Legion championship game is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31.

 

Class A results in the Junior Legion state tourney in Lincoln:

Lincoln Southwest eliminated Millard South (5-1) as Millard West eliminated Lincoln Southeast (5-1). In the winner’s bracket, Millard North topped Papillion-LaVista (9-2). Day four schedule will begin with Papillion taking on LSW during an elimination game at 4 p.m. while one-loss Millard West will face undefeated Millard North at 7 p.m.

 

Class A Senior National Division results in Kearney:

Millard West eliminated Omaha South (7-3); Kearney eliminated Papillion (6-5) as Gretna handed Lincoln Southwest their first loss (3-2).

Due to note 1 (teams will not match up with previous opponent, if possible); Kearney will first play LSW in an elimination game at 4 p.m. while one-loss Millard West will face undefeated Gretna at 7 p.m.

 

Class A Senior American Division results from Creighton Prep:

Millard South eliminated Elkhorn (10-0); Elkhorn South eliminated Hastings (11-7) and Fremont handed Lincoln North Star their first loss (13-6). Day four schedule will begin with an elimination game between Millard South and LNS at 4 p.m. followed by one-loss Elkhorn South vs. undefeated Fremont at 7 p.m.
