Seven Spot Jump In Rankings For Now #17 Wildcat Volleyball

WAYNE – Following a 3-0 start to the season in the Dallas Baptist Tournament, the Wayne State College volleyball team saw a near double digit jump in the top 25 rankings.

According to a release from the American Volleyball Coaches Association, the week one Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll was updated on Monday, September 6.

Wayne State College moved up from 24th to 17th now receiving 347 points.

The ‘Cats opened with 3-0 sweeps over Westminster College (Utah), Arkansas Tech and Eastern New Mexico while having their Dallas Baptist match canceled due to COVID-19 related issues with DBU.

Two more conference teams jumped into the top 25 as WSC now joins six other Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference volleyball programs ranked inside the top 25 poll led by #1 Concordia-St. Paul (4-0) who moved up one spot (20 first place votes). Other include #11 Minnesota Duluth (3-1) fell four spots; #13 St. Cloud State (4-0) moved up six spots; #14 Winona State (4-0) was receiving votes outside the top 25; #16 Southwest Minnesota State (4-0) was receiving votes outside the top 25 and #19 Northern State (2-2) fell four spots.

The next AVCA Women’s Division II Coaches Top 25 Poll will be updated on Monday, September 13.

#17 Wayne State College will next compete in the Colorado Premier Tournament this weekend which is an invite only tourney for ranked teams. WSC will match up with #5 Lewis (Ill.) at 11 a.m. and #9 Western Washington at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, September 10 before competing against two more ranked opponents on Saturday in Denver, Colorado.

The league opener for Wayne State College is on Friday and Saturday, September 17 – 18 at Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State. WSC will host Sioux Falls on Tuesday, September 21 at 6 p.m. from Rice Auditorium for their home opener.
