Seven-Run Outburst Secures Home Blue Devil Softball Win

WAYNE – The Wayne High softball program started a stretch Tuesday evening where they’ll play 10 games over a 10-day period.

From the Wayne Softball complex, WHS entertained a fellow Class B opponent of Columbus Lakeview.

Wayne High brought in one run across the plate during the first inning before both teams were scoreless the next two innings. WHS then closed out the game thanks to a seven-run fourth inning. The Blue Devils have now won four straight to improve to 9-3 while the Viqueens fell to 1-7.

Brooklyn Kruse singled twice and drove in a pair of runs for Wayne. Brianna Nissen and Taytum Sweetland both singled, scored and drove in two runs as Tori Kniesche accounted for a RBI. Kayla Fleming scored twice while Hailey Schroeder, Amara Hurlbert, Nicole Fertig and Aliah Schulz all scored.

Tori Kniesche picked up the no-hit, shutout win in five innings striking out 15 batters in 57 pitches.

The Wayne High softball team will next visit Tekamah-Herman on Thursday, September 12 before competing in the Mercy Tournament Saturday.
