WAYNE/WISNER – For the second straight day opening round games for the Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout in Wayne and 26th Shootout on the Elkhorn in Wisner have moved their first round dates due to weather.
With blowing snow and freezing temperatures continuing throughout Friday, tournament officials are looking to play basketball but keep everyone safe.
Tournament officials in Wayne were in talks this morning with the NSAA about re-seeding the tournament based on power points for Saturday, December 29 and Monday, December 31.
Teams joining Wayne High are Arlington, Hartington Cedar Catholic, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, Norfolk Catholic, Pender and West Point-Beemer as Gordon-Rushville wasn’t planning on traveling for the tourney.
Also, The Wayne High wrestling team has cancelled practice today and will not be competing in the Bennington Dual Tourney Saturday. The team will next practice Monday morning from 8 -10 a.m. in preparation for their next competition being the Aurora Invite on Thursday, January 3 at 3 p.m.
For teams competing in the tourney hosted by Wisner-Pilger, all first round games have been kept the same and will now be played on Saturday, December 29. Games for Monday, December 31 will be put in a Green Division and White Division bracket.

Wisner-Pilger vs. Battle Creek in North gym at 6 p.m.
Lutheran High Northeast vs. Winnebago in North gym at 2:30 p.m.
Pierce vs. Wakefield/Allen in South gym at 6 p.m.
Ponca vs. Neligh-Oakdale in South gym at 4:15 p.m.
Wisner-Pilger vs. Battle Creek in North gym at 7:45 p.m.
Lutheran High Northeast vs. Winnebago in North gym at 4:15 p.m.
Pierce vs. Wakefield in South gym at 7:45 p.m.
