Senior American Legion Baseball Area Championship Scores

PIERCE/NELIGH/PENDER – Classes B and C Area Tournaments for northeast Nebraska Senior American Legion baseball teams concluded Tuesday evening.

First off in Pierce for the Class B Area 5 Tournament, the host #5 Pierce competed against #1 Columbus Lakeview for the second time.

Lakeview scored six runs in the first inning and five more in the third to win by run-rule in five innings of 11-0. The team of Platte Center Post 283/Humphrey Post 80 outhit Pierce Post 72, 10-0 and had one error compared to three from Pierce.

Columbus Lakeview also defeated Pierce earlier in the tournament by a score of 13-2 on Saturday.

Columbus Lakeview improves to 21-1 on the season and advances to the Class B Senior Legion State Tournament.

The 2022 Class B Senior Legion State Tournament will be hosted by Broken Bow from Saturday, July 30 – Wednesday, August 3.

 

Moving over to Class C during the Area 2 Tournament hosted by Pender, #1 Pender took on #2 Tekamah-Herman.

The host Pender Post 55 picked up a 12-3 victory in five innings to advance to state. Tekamah-Herman Post 15’s run of three straight elimination victories ended. Tekamah-Herman led 2-0 after the first inning and were still ahead 2-1 following the second. Pender outscored T-H, 2-1 in the third to be tied at 3-3 before posting scores of five runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to win 12-3. Post 55 outhit Tekamah-Herman, 12-6 and had one error compared to four errors from Post 15.

 

Also in Neligh, the Area 1 Tournament hosted by Neligh had a three-hour delay between #1 Battle Creek and #5 Palmer-Wolbach-Greeley due to weather who met for the second time in the tournament.

Battle Creek picked up the 9-1 win over PWG on Tuesday to advance to state. Battle Creek also won 4-2 over PWG on Sunday.

The 2022 Class C Senior Legion State Tournament will be played in Wisner from Saturday, July 30 – Wednesday, August 3.
