Semifinal Victories Set Up Wayne Versus Battle Creek During C1-6 Subdistrict Finals Aired On KTCH

WAYNE – Members with the Wayne High volleyball team began postseason play looking to get back on the winning track after having a late-season winning streak snapped last week.

Three matches were held Monday evening from Wayne Jr/Sr High School gymnasium during the Class C1-6 Subdistrict Tournament.

#4 Homer began with a five-set win over #5 Winnebago (25-17, 25-17, 21-25, 22-25 and 15-11); #2 Battle Creek then got past #3 Pierce in four sets (23-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-23) and #1 Wayne closed out the night with a victory in straight sets over Homer (25-12, 25-15, 25-18).

Wayne High improves to 23-8; Battle Creek is now 20-9 while teams who ended their season were Pierce (13-14); Homer (12-16) and Winnebago (5-12).

Lauren Pick recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 13 digs while adding a solo block and two service aces to lead Wayne High. Rubie Klausen followed with nine kills and 13 digs; Sydney Redden paced the team in digs with 26 to go along with two aces and a kill as Kiara Krusemark finished with 27 set assists, four kills, four digs and a service ace. Other kills came from Emily Longe with four (solo block); Katy Jones (two digs) had three as Reagan Backer finished with one kill and 11 digs. Madi Sievers also had a dig.

The C1-6 Subdistrict championship match between #1 Wayne and #2 Battle Creek is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27 with the winner advancing to the district final round this Saturday. Pregame coverage on Big Red Country ‘KTCH’ 104.9 and waynedailynews.com is set for 6:15 p.m.

 

C2-3: #1 Howells-Dodge swept #4 Tekamah-Herman (25-9, 25-17, 25-21) and #2 GACC swept #3 Wisner-Pilger (25-13, 25-12, 25-22). Howells-Dodge will face GACC at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the championship match.

C2-5: #4 North Central won in four sets over #5 Creighton (25-18, 18-25, 25-22, 25-22) before #1 Ponca topped North Central in straight sets (25-18, 25-9, 25-18) as #3 Crofton swept #2 LCC (25-14, 26-24, 25-18). Ponca will face Crofton at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday during the championship match.

D1-3: #4 Osmond topped #5 Plainview in five sets (25-18, 21-25, 25-21, 20-25, 15-10) before #1 Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family swept Osmond (25-15, 25-7, 25-21) as #3 Tri County Northeast (Allen/Emerson-Hubbard) won in four sets over #2 Wausa (13-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-16). Humphrey/LHF will face the Wolfpack at 7 p.m. Tuesday during the championship match.

D1-4: #4 Bloomfield swept #5 Niobrara/Verdigre (25-21, 25-23, 25-15) before #1 Hartington Cedar Catholic swept Bloomfield (25-21, 25-7, 25-12) as #3 Hartington-Newcastle won in four sets over #2 Boyd County (25-19, 21-25, 25-16, 25-13). Cedar Catholic will face Hartington-Newcastle during the championship match Tuesday at 7 p.m.
