Second Half Comeback Carries Elkhorn Over South Sioux

LINCOLN — The Elkhorn Antlers erased a seven-point halftime deficit to beat South Sioux City 67-60 and win the Class B State Championship.

Coach Jennifer Wragge switched from a zone to a man-to-man defense and slowed down the Cardinals in the second half.  South Sioux hit a three-pointer to tie the game 48-48 entering the fourth quarter but Elkhorn owned the game after that.  They held the Cardinals to 3-16 shooting in the final quarter and poured in 16 free throws to secure the win.

It is Elkhorn’s first state championship since 1985.

South Sioux City’s quest for a repeat title came up short but they had just one senior on the roster and are looking forward to the future.

ELKHORN: Donahoe 4, Jakopovic 16, Meehan 9, Cameron 3, Carlson 27, Lawrence 8

SOUTH SIOUX CITY: Fischer 10, Sims 19, Rasmussen 13, Tinker 7, Christensen 3, Knowles 1, Strom 7
