Scheil Sets Two Personal-Best Marks, Earns Field Athlete Of The Week Honors

WAYNE – After hitting personal marks in a pair of events this past weekend, sophomore Mckenzie Scheil was tabbed as the Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.

According to a release from the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota, the Fairmont, Nebraska native placed in two meets for the Wayne State College women’s indoor track & field team. This is the first time this season Scheil has earned the POW honor and second time in career.

Scheil first broke the 60-foot mark in the weight throw on Friday, February 7 at the Husker Invite placing third at 61’ ½”. The Fillmore Central HS grad then won the weight throw during the Dakota Realty Meet at the University of South Dakota on Saturday, February 8 with a toss of 62’ 2 ¼”. The mark now ranks fourth in NCAA Division II.

Scheil also had a provisional mark in the shot put Saturday finishing second at 47’ ¼”. Her shot put mark ranks 16th in NCAA Division II.

The NSIC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week was Ida Narbuvoll a senior from University of Mary.

On the men’s side, senior distance runner Benjamin Allen from Concordia-St. Paul was the Track Athlete of the Week while junior jumper Chris Cook from MSU Moorhead was the Field Athlete of the Week.

The Wayne State College women’s and men’s indoor track & field team will next compete in the Concordia (Seward, NE) Invite on Friday, February 14 starting at 2 p.m.
