Scheil Named NSIC Women’s Field Athlete Of The Week, Allen Recognized Among Top Field Performers

WAYNE – Junior thrower McKenzie Scheil has received a weekly award for the second consecutive week.

According to a release from the Wayne State Athletics office, Scheil was selected as the NSIC Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week following her performance Saturday at the UNK Central Nebraska Challenge.

The graduate of Fillmore Central HS, won the hammer throw and took second place in the shot put with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Her winning effort in the hammer throw was 189’ 2” and she followed that with a heave of 48’ 1 1/2” in the shot put that was second and an NCAA provisional mark that currently ranks fifth-best in NCAA Division II. Scheil also has the second-best mark of the young outdoor season in the hammer throw at 194’ 9”.

The NSIC Track Athlete of the Week on the women’s side was junior Denisha Cartwright from Minnesota State-Mankato.

 

Men’s weekly winners were senior Kornelius Klah from Minnesota State-Mankato on the track and senior Marcus Gustaveson from Concordia-St. Paul in the field for the second straight week.

Senior Ben Allen of Wayne State College was also recognized among the men’s top field performers. Allen had an NCAA provisional mark and set a new school record in shot put at UNK Central Nebraska Challenge. He placed third in shot put at 56-1.25 and broke his own school mark by nearly a foot and a half. His NCAA provisional mark ranks him 17th in shot put.

The Wayne State College women’s and men’s track & field team will next compete on Friday and Saturday at the South Dakota Challenge in Vermillion, South Dakota.
