Scheil, Chipps Continue To Shine In Women Throwing Events; Kneifl Finishes Third For Wildcat Men

VERMILLION, SD – For the second time this season, the Wayne State College women’s and men’s outdoor track & field team were in action.

From the Lillibridge Track Complex in Vermillion, South Dakota, WSC took part in the USD Early Bird Invitational on Saturday.

The Wayne State College women were led by Mckenzie Scheil and Brooklynn Chipps who each posted top 10 finishes in the hammer throw and shot put.

In the weight throw, Wayne State had five of the top 14 finishers in a large field of 74 throwers from NCAA Division I, II and NAIA ranks. Graduate student Mckenzie Scheil took fourth at 184’ 11 ¾” followed by junior Brooklynn Chipps in fifth at 184’ 3 ½”. Kendra Paasch was 10th (160’ 4”) with Nicole Heeren 13th at 154’ 11 ½” and Jadin Wagner placing 14th with a mark of 153’ 9 ¼”.

In the shot put, Scheil finished seventh at 44’ 2” while Chipps collected a ninth place mark of 43’ 9 ¾”.

Senior Allie Rosener picked up a 10th place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 11:42.72.

Sophomore Emily Smollen was 11th in the triple jump with a leap of 35’ 8 ½” while freshman Emily Erickson was 12th at 33’ 8 ½”.

Redshirt freshman Reilly Young was 13th in the discus among 65 throwers with a top toss of 136’ 2”.

 

The Wildcat men’s outdoor track and field team top performer came from Dylan Kneifl who had the top Wayne State finish with a third place finish in the high jump.

A sophomore from Wisner-Pilger High School, Kneifl cleared 6’ 7 ¼” to place third in strong field of 23 jumpers from NCAA Division I, II, NAIA and junior colleges.

Graduate student Cole Christoffersen took fifth in the hammer throw amongst a field of 60 throwers with a mark of 180’ ¾”.

Freshman Logan Moeller collected a seventh place finish in the long jump with a leap of 23’ 3 ½” and also recorded a seventh place finish in the triple jump at 45’ 1 ¾”.

Freshman Alex Brandt had an eighth place finish in the javelin with a top throw of 150’ 9 ½”.

Top finishers in running events included Bryce Holcomb taking ninth in the 800-meter run (1:56.05) followed by Nathan Pearson 12th in 1:56.38.  In the 1,500-meter run, Brandon Mundorf was 14th at 4:09.00.

The Wayne State College women’s and men’s outdoor track & field team will next take part in the Sioux City Relays on Friday and Saturday, April 8 – 9 in Sioux City, Iowa.
