WAYNE – Nearly 150 individuals participated in the inaugural Run for the Paw 5K through late September into early October.
According to a release from the Wayne State College Athletics Department, the virtual 5K was held between September 27 – October 2. Over $3,500 was raised from the event which will go towards student-athlete scholarships at WSC.
Winners were announced by Megan Finn, WSC Director of Athletic Development and organizer of the event. Jordan Bramblett from Prescott, Arizona with a time of 15:44 was the fastest male runner while Arianna Anderson of Prescott, Arizona was named the fastest female winner at 18:58. Awarded the best post-race selfie was Beverly Evans of Aurelia, Iowa, a 1975 Wayne State graduate.
“For the first year, we were extremely pleased with the participation of nearly 150 people from all over the nation,” remarked Finn. “We raised over $3,500 for student-athlete scholarships thanks to the participants and Pac N Save, who sponsored the shirts for the event. I received dozens and dozens of emails with post-race selfies from alumni and supporters. It was great to see everyone have fun supporting Wayne State in their Wildcat gear.”
The first-ever event attracted 145 participants and 82 submitted results.
