Randolph Girls Win Game With Free Throws, Trojan Boys Remain Undefeated

WAKEFIELD – A pair of Lewis and Clark Conference girls and boys basketball teams met during a Tuesday night regular season double header.

From Wakefield Community Schools, the Trojans entertained Randolph.

In the girls game, Randolph held an early 10-8 first quarter lead before both teams scored the same amount of points in the second putting the Cardinals up 20-18 at the break. Wakefield/Allen tied the game up with a 12-10 third quarter and led by four at most in the fourth. But, Randolph would outscore the Trojans 16-7 in the fourth to win 46-37. The win for the Cardinals snapped a two-game losing streak as Randolph now sits 2-2 while Wakefield/Allen fell to 0-3.

Carlie Nordhues paced Randolph in scoring with 18 points (7-10 FT) while Cindy Haselhorst added 10 points (8-9 FT) and Jaiden Taylor tallied seven points. Other Cardinal scoring came from Addison Villwok with five points, Emma Bermel (three) and Kayla Nordhues (two).

Randolph finished 24-35 from the foul line including 11-15 in the fourth quarter.

Seven different Trojans poured in points led by Jordyn Carr with 13 points and Courtney Bokemper scoring seven points. Other scoring came from Jamie Dolph added five points, Haley Stapleton and Aishah Valenzuela (four each) as Carly Dickens and Maddie Mogus (two each).

During the boys contest, Wakefield jumped out front 8-0 before ending the opening quarter up 11-5. The Trojans then added to their lead with a 9-3 second to lead 20-8 at the break. In the second half, Wakefield outscored Randolph 12-4 in the third and 12-6 in the fourth. Final saw Wakefield win 44-18 to improve to 4-0 on the season as the Cardinals fell to 0-4.

No Trojan recorded double figure scoring as Blake Brown scored all nine of his points in the first half. Justin Erb tallied eight points, Blake Heimann and Solomon Peitz both scored seven points, Dylon Harder tacked on five points and Esgar Godinez tallied four points. Zephan Tinsley and Nick Arenas totaled two points each.

Wakefield shot 8-11 from the foul line.

Only three scorers produced points for Randolph led by the 14 points from Keaton Backhaus. John Munter and Sam Lemmons both tacked on two points.

The Randolph girls and boys will next visit Bloomfield on Thursday, December 13 while the Wakefield/Allen girls and Wakefield boys will entertain Stanton on Friday, December 14.
