Rain Delay Causes Early Shift In Class B Senior Legion State Scheduling

GERING – The 2019 Class B Senior American Legion State baseball tournament saw a late-night postponement following over an hour rain delay in western Nebraska.

The 21-8 Wakefield Post 81 Seniors were scheduled to face the host, Gering during the final game of the night, but an announcement was made to postponed the game just after 9 p.m. central time Saturday.

Wakefield will now play Gering at 11 a.m. central time Sunday. Coverage of the game will begin following the church service on The City ‘KCTY’ 98.9/1590 and online at waynedailynews.com.

Earlier in the day Saturday, Alliance topped Seward 4-1 and Hickman defeated Bennington 11-3. Springfield, defending champions from 2018, was up 7-2 on McCook in the top of the fifth inning once the rain delay began around 6:45 p.m. central time.

The Springfield/McCook winner/loser will face the winner/loser of the Wakefield/Gering game.

Sunday’s schedule will start with the top of the fifth inning for Springfield vs. McCook at 11 a.m. CT on the main field. The Wakefield Post 81 vs. Gering game will be played also at 11 a.m. central time on Gering’s home field which is located right across from the main field.

The first elimination game will follow the Springfield/McCook game around noon central time on the main field between Seward and Bennington. The loser of the Springfield/McCook game will face the loser of the Wakefield/Gering game around 2 p.m. central time on the Gering field before game times should go back to normal.

Winner’s bracket games are set for 5 p.m. central time between Alliance and Hickman followed by the winner’s of McCook/Springfield and Gering/Wakefield around 8 p.m. central time.
