B-6 District Baseball: #3 Wayne Vs. #6 GACC/SS/WPB Being Carried On KCTY

ASHLAND – Win three and you move onto the state tournament is the goal for district baseball tournament teams.

From the Jack Anderson Ball Fields in Ashland, the Wayne High baseball team will open postseason play during the B-6 District Tournament on Thursday, May 5.

The Blue Devils are 13-6 on the season and have won two straight but have not played since picking up 11-1 victories in Wayne vs. Norfolk and in West Point against the Patriots on April 25 – 26.

Thursday’s contest between #3 Wayne and #6 Guardian Central Catholic/Scribner-Snyder/West Point-Beemer will begin at 2:30 p.m. Join Sports Director, Aaron Scheffler on The City ‘KCTY’ 98.9/1590 and waynedailynews.com with pregame show coverage set for 2:10 p.m.

The Patriots are 4-8 and have also had three straight games canceled due to weather and last played on April 26 in the 11-1 loss to WHS.

Earlier this season, Wayne High also won 1-0 over GACC/Scribner-Snyder/West Point-Beemer on April 4.

Last year, Wayne High went 2-1 in the district tournament finishing 13-8 before falling 3-0 to the top seed, Hastings. The Patriots went 7-10 in 2021 going 1-1 in the postseason.

The Blue Devil/Patriot winner will face #2 Beatrice (15-4) on Friday, May 6 at 2:30 p.m.

Thursday’s other first round match will feature #4 Ralston (10-9) vs. #5 Seward (5-16) at 5:30 p.m. with the winner to play at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 6 against #1 Platte Valley (17-5).

The B-6 Championship game will be at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 7.


Other northeast Nebraska teams in action during postseason baseball:

#7 South Sioux City (3-15) will compete in the B-1 District hosted by Norris. The Cardinals will open with #2 Adams Central (9-6) now on Friday due to weather. Game time TBA.

#7 Thurston-Cuming County (Pender/BRLD/Emerson-Hubbard) (1-13) will compete in the B-3 District hosted by Central City/Fullerton/Centura. The TC Thunder will open with #2 Elkhorn (12-13) now on Friday due to weather at 2:30 p.m. from Kernel Field in Central City.

#5 Norfolk (4-20) will open the A-3 District against #4 Lincoln Northeast (10-16) at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 6. The winner will face the host, #1 Millard South (21-8) at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 7.
