WEST POINT – With a home-opener scheduled for later this week, the Wakefield Post 81 Jr/Sr American Legion baseball teams took to the road Tuesday evening.
Wakefield visited West Point to open their shortened summer season.
In the Juniors contest, Wakefield Post 81 took the early 1-0 lead in the top of the third before West Point controlled the home half of the third with 13 runs. West Point scored 12 of their runs with two outs as Post 81 gave up nine walks and two errors in the inning. Wakefield fell to 0-1.
Jesse Lundahl walked in the third as Sam Nuno recorded a squeeze bunt to drive in the run. Ryan Anderson and Blake Brown both singled while Gabe Lambrecht doubled.
Nuno suffered the loss in two and two-thirds allowing an earned run off two hits while striking out two batters and walking five.
During the Seniors outing, West Point scored eight runs in the opening inning before winning 9-0. Post 81 Seniors fell to 0-1.
Justin Erb and Couy Johnson both went 1-for-2 as Erb doubled off the fence.
Brock Floyd suffered the complete game loss in four innings allowing nine hits while striking out four batters and walking two.
The Wakefield Post 81 Jrs/Srs will next host Wisner-Pilger/Dodge-Howells on Thursday, June 25 at 5/7 p.m. from Eaton Field. Admission is free and there’ll be no concessions as fans are being asked to have six-feet of distance among groups of eight maximum.
