Post 43 Uses Extra Base-Hits To Surpass Hartington, Wayne Seniors Come Up Short

HARTINGTON – Wayne Post 43 American Legion baseball opened Ralph Bishop League play on Monday in Hartington.

RBL doubleheader results favored the Wayne Juniors over Hartington, 12-1 while the Hartington Seniors defeated Wayne, 5-3. Post 43 Juniors begin their season at 1-0 while the Srs start off 0-1.

During the Juniors game, Gavin Redden singled three times, drove in a run and scored three runs while Devin Anderson singled, tripled, drove in five runs and scored twice for Wayne. Wyatt Heikes singled and tripled; Kaden Keller tripled and scored twice as Zach McManigal doubled and drove in two runs.

Jameson Meyer singled and drove in two runs; Jase Dean accounted for a RBI; Will Leseberg scored twice as Alex Rodriguez, Ryan Karsky and Calvin Ankeny all scored once.

Heikes (82 pitches) picked up the complete game victory in five innings allowing an earned run off four hits while striking out eight batters and walking two.

From the Senior contest, Kaleb Moormeier tripled, drove in a run and scored while Calvin Starzl singled, tripled and scored for Post 43. James Dorcey singled and drove in a run, Gavin Redden singled and scored as Toby Braun singled.

Dorcey (88 pitches) suffered the loss in four and a third innings allowing five earned runs off five hits while striking out eight batters and walking six. Cooper Zara (42 pitches) worked the final inning and two-thirds allowing one hit while striking out four batters and walking three.

Both teams were next scheduled visit Battle Creek on Wednesday, May 25 but the games have been postponed due to weather. Wayne Post 43 Juniors and Seniors will now visit Battle Creek on Thursday at 5:30/8 p.m. while the Post 43 Seniors will open their home schedule on Friday, May 27 welcoming in Wisner-Pilger/Dodge-Howells at Hank Overin Field in Wayne starting at 7 p.m.
