PIERCE – Following a divisional finals loss to Pierce, the Wayne Post 43 Senior American Legion baseball teams traveled to Pierce Saturday.
The 2021 Ralph Bishop League Tournament concluded with consolation and championship play between the North and South Division teams.
In the Seniors consolation game, Wayne (North Division) improved to 12-4 following a 5-4 victory in eight innings over #1 Columbus Lakeview (South Division).
Both teams scored a run in the second inning before Columbus Lakeview began to pull away with a run in the third and two more in the fourth. Wayne Post 43 tied the game at 4-4 thanks to a three-run sixth and then won the game in the eighth inning with a go-ahead run to secure the 5-4 victory.
James Dorey singled twice, doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice while Blake Bartos doubled and drove in a run. Jacob Kneifl singled twice and drove in a run; Max Miller singled twice; Reid Korth, Jacob Anderson and Toby Braun all singled and scored as Brock Hopkins accounted for a RBI.
Korth (34 pitches) secured the win in the final two and a third innings allowing one hit while striking out four batters and walking two. Kneifl (106 pitches) started the opening five and two-thirds allowing four runs (one earned) off eight hits while striking out six batters and walking three.
