Post 43 Seniors, Juniors Secure Road Victories

BATTLE CREEK – Following a mid-week postponement, the Wayne Post 43 Senior and Junior American Legion baseball teams were right back in action on Thursday.

From Battle Creek, Post 43 visited Battle Creek.

Wayne secured victories of 4-3 in the Seniors contest and 5-1 in the Juniors game. Post 43 Seniors are now 1-1 while the Juniors improved to 2-0.

During the Seniors game, Wyatt Heikes singled three times and drove in a run while Gavin Redden singled, drove in a run and scored. Aiden Liston singled and drove in a run; Kaleb Moormeier singled and scored; Justin Sherman singled as James Dorcey and Calvin Starzl both scored. Jacob Anderson accounted for a RBI.

Liston (50 pitches) picked up the win in three innings of relief allowing one run off two hits while striking out three batters and walking one. Moormeier (59 pitches) started the opening four innings allowing two runs off two hits while striking out four batters.

In the Juniors contest, Zach McManigal singled twice and drove in a run while Heikes singled and drove in two runs. Devin Anderson singled and drove in a run; Gavin Redden singled and scored; Jase Dean accounted for a RBI as single runs came from Aiden Liston, Will Leseberg, Moormeier and Alex Rodriguez.

Redden (86 pitches) picked up the complete game victory in seven innings allowing an earned run off five hits while striking out 11 batters.

The Wayne Post 43 Juniors will be off until Wednesday, June 1 when they join their Seniors team at Ponca while the Post 43 Seniors will open their home schedule with Wisner-Pilger/Dodge-Howells on Friday at 7 p.m.
