Post 43 Legion Baseball Split Home Games With South Sioux City

WAYNE – Following a road league doubleheader at Ponca on Wednesday, Wayne Post 43 Junior and Senior American Legion baseball teams returned to their home diamond on Thursday.

From Hank Overin Field in Wayne, Post 43 welcomed in South Sioux City.

The Wayne Post 43 Seniors suffered a 9-2 loss to South Sioux City falling to 2-3 while the Post 43 Juniors held on for a 3-2 victory to remain undefeated at 4-0.

In the Seniors game, Gavin Redden singled twice and scored; Wyatt Heikes singled twice as Kaleb Moormeier singled and drove in a run. Aiden Liston, Justin Sherman and Devin Anderson all singled; James Dorcey accounted for a RBI as Toby Braun scored.

Cooper Zara (76 pitches) suffered the loss in four and a third innings allowing six runs (four earned) off three hits while striking out four batters and walking five. Calvin Starzl (64 pitches) worked two and two-thirds allowing three earned runs off two hits while striking out two batters and walking five.

During the Juniors contest, Kaden Keller singled, doubled and scored while Aiden Liston singled twice, drove in a run and scored.

Devin Anderson singled, drove in a run and scored; Jase Dean singled as Wyatt Heikes accounted for a RBI.

Kaleb Moormeier (89 pitches) secured the victory in six innings allowing two earned runs off five hits while striking out seven batters and walking two. Gavin Redden (8) closed out the final inning earning the save.

The Wayne Post 43 Juniors and Seniors will compete in a non-league doubleheader on Friday, June 3 hosting Albion at 6/8 p.m. from Hank Overin Field in Wayne.

The Wayne Post 43 Juniors and Seniors will return to Ralph Bishop League play on Monday, June 6 hosting Pierce at 5:30/8 p.m.

 

Also, the Wakefield Post 81 Juniors visited Battle Creek Thursday evening. The host Battle Creek used a walk-off run to win 2-1 in eight innings. Post 81 falls to 2-2 in Ralph Bishop League Play and will next host Ponca on Monday, June 6 at 7 p.m.
