Post 43 Juniors Three-Peat As RBL Champions

WAKEFIELD – It was championship Sunday for Junior and Senior American Legion baseball teams during the Ralph Bishop League Tournament.

From Eaton Field in Wakefield, #4 Wayne Post 43 took on #6 Arlington where Wayne topped Arlington earlier in the season 15-0 on June 19 in Wayne.

Following a pair of scoreless innings, Wayne jumped ahead with a four-run third before Arlington tallied a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to trail 4-3. After another scoreless inning, Arlington took the lead with a two-run seventh as Post 43 answered with a run in the home half to force extras at 5 all. One inning later, Wayne walked-off with the 6-5 victory to improve to 20-4 on the season and marking the third straight league title for Post 43.

Gunnar Jorgensen singled and was credited with the walk-off via error as Jacob Kneifl doubled twice and drove in a run for Wayne. Max Miller singled twice and drove in two runs; Blake Bartos singled and tripled; Brock Hopkins singled and drove in a run; Reid Korth singled as Toby Braun accounted for a RBI.

Reid Korth picked up the win in three innings allowing two runs (one earned) off four hits while striking out five batters. Blake Bartos started the opening five innings allowing three runs off four hits while striking out three batters and walking two.

The Wayne Post 43 Juniors will close out their regular season on Tuesday, July 9 hosting South Sioux City at 7 p.m. Join Sports Director, Aaron Scheffler on Big Red Country ‘KTCH’ 104.9 and online at waynedailynews.com with pregame coverage set for 6:45 p.m.

Wayne will also compete in the Class B Area 3 Tourney hosted by Waterloo-Valley Friday, July 12 – Tuesday, July 16. Schedule is TBA with other teams including Arlington, Bennington, Blair, Roncalli, Schuyler and West Point.

 

The Senior RBL championship game favored #3 Arlington over #4 West Point (3-0).

Juniors consolation: #1 Columbus Lakeview 5, #10 Battle Creek 1

Seniors consolation: #2 Wakefield/Wayne Post 81 defeated #1 Pender (5-1). Wakefield is now 17-7 on the season and will close out their regular season hosting Vermillion on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
