ALBION – With weekend weather causing some delays in the Class B Area 5 Junior American Legion Baseball Tournament, Wayne Post 43 fought off an elimination game Sunday late afternoon.
In Albion, #5 Wayne Post 43 opened the postseason tourney with a 13-2 victory over #4 Plainview on Friday before Saturday’s game went past midnight which favored the top-seeded Albion team, 8-2. Wayne recently eliminated #6 St. Paul, 13-3 on Sunday to improve to 11-8 on the season.
During the Saturday into Sunday game, Albion scored early and often with single runs in the first and second followed by two runs in the third to lead 4-0. After two scoreless innings, Albion added two more runs in the sixth as both teams finished the seventh with two runs. The final favored Albion, 8-2.
Zach McManigal singled and drove in two runs while Cooper Zara singled and scored. Wyatt Heikes and James Dorcey both singled as Devin Anderson added a run scored.
Aiden Liston (109 pitches) suffered the loss in five innings allowing six runs (four earned) off five hits while striking out seven batters and walking five. Devin Anderson (27 pitches) worked an inning allowing two runs off one hit while walking one batter. Zara (4) closed out the final two-thirds striking out one batter.

From the Sunday elimination game, Wayne did the scoring early this time with three runs in the first and an eight-run second inning to lead 11-0. Post 43 outscored St. Paul, 2-1 in the third as St. Paul scored two runs in the fourth. Wayne won by run-rule, 13-3.
James Dorcey doubled, drove in three runs and scored twice while Devin Anderson doubled and scored. Jase Dean singled, drove in three runs and scored; Aiden Liston singled, drove in two runs and scored; Ryan Karsky singled and scored three times; Heikes singled and scored twice; Zara and Kade Keller both singled and scored; McManigal accounted for a RBI as Jack Bruckner scored.
Heikes (28 pitches) secured the win in two innings allowing one hit while walking one batter. Zara (50 pitches) worked two innings allowing three earned runs off three hits while striking out two batters and walking three. Dean (15) closed out the final inning striking out all three batters.

Wayne Post 43 will now face #2 Pierce for a third time this season. Pierce has won the previous two meetings of 7-0 in Pierce on June 2 and 1-0 on June 28 in the Ralph Bishop League second round tourney game.
Monday’s game is scheduled for 5 p.m. with Pierce who has defeated #7 O’Neill and #3 Columbus Lakeview but suffered a loss to Albion. #1 Albion (2-0) and #3 Columbus Lakeview (2-1) will play at 7:30 p.m. this evening. Wayne, Pierce and Lakeview will need to win to advance to championship Tuesday at 5 p.m. as if Albion would lose, they will advance to the winner-take-all championship game following the 5 p.m. game Tuesday night.
