ARLINGTON – With the league tournament opening this weekend and scheduled to last through July 3, the Wayne Post 43 Junior and Senior American Legion baseball teams were back in action Wednesday evening.
Post 43 visited Arlington where the Seniors won 2-1 and the Juniors suffered a 6-5 loss.
In the Seniors game, Wayne scored a run in the first and fourth to lead 2-0 while Arlington scored one run in the final inning. Post 43 held on for the 2-1 victory and improved to 10-3.
Reid Korth recorded two doubles and one run scored while Jacob Kneifl doubled and scored. Jacob Anderson singled twice and drove in a run; James Dorcey added a double while Max Miller and Brock Hopkins both singled.
Kneifl (107 pitches) secured the win in six and a third innings allowing one run off four hits while striking out 14 batters and walking one. Korth (four pitches) came in for the final out being a strikeout.

During the Juniors outing, Arlington scored a run in the first while Wayne took a 2-1 lead following the third. Arlington then regained the lead with back-to-back one-run innings in the fourth and fifth. Post 43 also regained the lead with two runs in the sixth but Arlington answered with two of their own runs in the home half of the seventh to win 5-4. Wayne fell to 7-6.
Wyatt Heikes singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored twice while Ryan Karsky singled twice and scored. Aiden Liston singled twice, Zack McManigal singled as Calvin Starzl scored.
Aiden Liston (102 pitches) suffered the loss in six innings allowing five runs (two earned) off six hits while striking out seven batters and walking four. Devin Anderson (four pitches) worked two-thirds of an inning.

The Wayne Juniors earned the #4 seed in the north division and will face #5 Crofton at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 26 to open the Ralph Bishop League Tournament. The winner will play at #1 Pierce on Monday, June 28.
Other Saturday Junior games in Hartington will feature #3 Battle Creek vs. #6 Wakefield at 3:30 p.m. and #2 Hartington vs. #7 Ponca at 6 p.m. Semifinal games will be played at the highest north seed on Thursday, July 1 at 7 p.m. with the league championship game set for Saturday, July 3 at 5 p.m. back in Pierce.
For the Wayne Seniors, they earned the #1 seed and will play on Tuesday, June 29 at 8 p.m. hosting the winner of either #4 Ponca or #5 Crofton who play on Sunday, June 27 at 1 p.m. in Battle Creek.
Other Sunday Senior games in Battle Creek will be #3 Pierce vs. #6 Wakefield at 3:30 p.m. and #2 Battle Creek vs. #7 Hartington at 6 p.m. Semifinal games will be played at the highest north seed on Friday, July 2 at 7 p.m. with the league championship game set for Saturday, July 3 at 7:30 p.m. in Pierce.
