Post 43 Juniors And Seniors Record Home Wins, Prepare For Busy Schedule

WAYNE – Over the next seven of eight days, one or both of the Wayne American Legion baseball teams will be in action as that stretch started Wednesday evening.

In Ralph Bishop League play, from Hank Overin Field Wayne played host to Columbus Lakeview.

From the Juniors contest, after a scoreless first inning Wayne brought in a run during the second. After that, no more runs came across the plate and the Wayne Post 43 Juniors held on for the 1-0 win to improve to 11-0 on the season.

Gunnar Jorgensen recorded a double and the lone run scored with Blake Bartos accounting for an RBI. Josh Lutt, Hagan Miller, Victor Kniesche and Tyrus Eischeid all added a single.

Josh Lutt picked up the complete game shutout win in seven innings allowing three hits while striking out four batters and walking one.

In the Seniors game, Wayne opened scoring with a five-run first inning before adding a run in the second to lead 6-0. Following a pair of scoreless innings, Lakeview pulled within a run after scoring five in the fifth. Post 43 created some breathing room with a two-run home half fifth and won 8-5. The Wayne Seniors improved to 11-3 on the season.

Adam Bentjen led Wayne at the plate with two doubles, a single and two RBI while Tucker Nichols accounted for a single and two RBI. Payten Gamble singled as Hagan Miller, Zane Jackson and Justin Dean all recorded a RBI.

Bentjen picked up the win in six and two-thirds before being pulled due to pitch limit (105). He allowed five earned runs off of three hits while striking out seven batters and walking four. Gamble worked the final third of an inning in 10 pitches allowing one hit.

The Wayne Post 43 Juniors are right back in action today at 1 p.m. for a nine-inning game at Yankton while the Seniors will host Laurel Post 54 on Friday at 7 p.m.
