PONCA – After hosting a pair of singles matches in early October, the Ponca volleyball team was back in action for a home triangular Thursday evening.
From Ponca’s gymnasium, Hartington-Newcastle and Walthill were in town.
Ponca dominated Walthill (25-0, 25-6) and won over Hartington-Newcastle (25-21, 25-23). With the two wins, Ponca improves to 16-8 on the season.
In the match with the HNS Wildcats, Josie Reid paced Ponca with nine kills and 13 digs followed by six kills and 10 digs from Kaci Day. Dana Kratke picked up 15 set assists with Morgan Nelson tacking on another 11 as Brooklyn Bacon recorded three service aces.
Hartington-Newcastle was led by the 10 kills and 18 digs from Kayden Jueden as well as nine kills and 10 digs by Abbe Morten. Liby Lange recorded a team-high 27 set assists while Willa Scoville posted 14 digs.
From the contest with Walthill, Grace Salmen and Day both recorded four kills each as Day added eight digs for Ponca. Kortney Kethkenher picked up six service aces while Nelson tacked on a team-high nine set assists and another two from Kratke.
For Hartington-Newcastle, they won over Walthill to now sit 17-3 as Walthill fell to 4-14.
Kayden Jueden led HNS with five kills, four kills and three solo blocks from Belle Harms and two each from Hailey Gottsche, Abbe Morten and Evvie Krie. Liby Lange tallied 11 set assists as Scoville posted nine digs.
Hartington-Newcastle will next host a one-day tournament on Saturday while Ponca is off until hosting Laurel-Concord-Coleridge on Tuesday, October 16.
