Ponca Takes Four-Set Match Over Wakefield-Allen

PONCA – A pair of northeast Nebraska volleyball teams were in action Tuesday evening.

From Ponca high school, Wakefield-Allen visited the Indians.

Ponca and Wakefield-Allen went four sets favoring the home team Indians (25-15, 25-18, 23-25, 25-20) to improve to 17-4 while the Trojans fell to 11-11

Josie Reid recorded a double-double with 16 kills, 18 digs and two blocks while Kaci Day also had 16 kills and nine digs to go along with two service aces for Ponca. Alyssa Crosgrove finished with nine kills and 12 digs followed by Meg Keller with 12 digs. Morgan Nelson tacked on 41 set assists and nine digs.

Wakefield-Allen’s top performers were Alex Arenas with a double-double thanks to 12 kills and 10 digs while Jordyn Carr added 11 kills and 15 digs. Hayden Ekberg tallied nine kills and four blocks (two solo), Aishah Valenzuela posted a team-high 24 digs followed by Abby Heiman with 15 digs and a double-double by Carly Dickens with 31 set assists and 14 digs.

As a team, the Trojans recorded five service aces.

Ponca will next visit Hartington Cedar Catholic while Wakefield-Allen will host Creighton with both matches scheduled for Thursday.
