Pitching Showcase In Seniors Game, Wayne Juniors Jump Ahead Early In Post 43 Home Sweep

WAYNE – Monday night American Legion baseball was carried on the radio during a warm evening of Ralph Bishop League action.

From Hank Overin Field in Wayne, Post 43 welcomed in Tekamah-Herman Post 15.

The Wayne Juniors won 10-2 by run-rule in five innings over Post 15 while the two starting pitchers in the Seniors game combined for 33 strikeouts in a 1-0 victory for Wayne Post 43.

During the Seniors game, both pitchers were cruising along as the game was scoreless through four innings. Max Miller led off the bottom of the fifth with a single for Wayne and Devin Anderson came into run. Anderson stole second and later stole third. During his steal attempt to third the pick-off throw by the catcher got away from the third baseman and rolled out to left field which allowed Anderson to score the lone run of the game. Wayne Post 43 improved to 5-0 on the season as Tekamah-Herman suffered their first league loss now at 2-1 (2-2 overall).

Jacob Kneifl also singled along with Miller.

Kneifl (103 pitches) secured the one-hit complete game shutout victory in seven innings striking out 18 batters and walking one. Earlier this season, Kneifl had 19 strikeouts.

Gunnar Ray secured the lone hit for Tekamah-Herman as Post 15 stranded two players in scoring position.

Clay Beaumont (85 pitches) suffered the loss allowing an earned run off two hits while striking out 15 batters and walking one.

In the Juniors contest, Wayne scored twice in the opening inning before adding four runs in the second and three more in the third. Wayne scored once more in the fourth as Tekamah-Herman scored two runs in the top of the fifth falling 10-2. Wayne improved to 2-3 while Post 15 fell to 1-2 in Ralph Bishop League play (2-2 overall).

Jack Bruckner tripled and scored twice while Devin Anderson singled twice, drove in two runs and scored once. Jase Dean singled, drove in a run and scored; Aiden Liston singled and drove in a run; James Dorcey and Ryan Karsky both scored twice; Calvin Starzl accounted for a RBI as Cooper Zara and Wyatt Heikes both scored.

Liston (62 pitches) secured the win in four innings allowing one hit while striking out seven batters and walking two. Dean (22 pitches) closed out the final inning allowing two runs off one hit while striking out two batters and walking one.

For Tekamah-Herman, Brady Braniff singled and drove in a run while Caden Booth singled. Thatcher Zink and Nery Pintor both scored.

Braniff suffered the loss in three innings allowing nine runs (two earned) off four hits while striking out and walking three batters each. Zink (13 pitches) worked an inning allowing an earned run off one hit while striking out and walking one batter.
