PIERCE – A few area high school wrestling teams took to the mat over the weekend during a post-holiday invitational.
From Pierce Public Schools, the Bluejays hosted the 11-team invite Saturday.
Central City held off an out-of-state team being Logan-Magnolia, IA (241.5-224) to win the Pierce Invite while Logan View placed third with 206.5 points, the host Pierce followed in fourth with 179 points and Battle Creek rounded out the top five teams with 143 points.
West Point-Beemer (sixth – 123.5), Crofton-Bloomfield (seventh – 117), Mount Michael Benedictine (eighth – 94.5), Hartington Cedar Catholic (ninth – 30.5), Quad County Northeast (10th – 29.5) and Pierce JV (11th – 19) closed out the team scoring.
Pierce:
Zander Schweitzer (182) won his weight class while Brock Bolling (126), Ashton Schweitzer (160) and Michael Kruntorad (170) all finished runner-up. Ethan Dohmen (120), Blake Bolling (132) and Jayden Coulter (138) all placed third; Nick Erickson (220) came in fourth and Aiden Gnat (152) took sixth.
Quad County Northeast (Randolph/LCC):
Nolan Ohlrich (152) placed fifth and Carter Olson (126) took sixth.
Hartington Cedar Catholic:
Kerby Hochstein (132) placed runner-up and Conner Hochstein (152) finished fourth.
