WAYNE – After falling at BRLD earlier this week, the Wayne High girls basketball team was back on the home court Friday evening hosting a Mid State Conference opponent.
From the Wayne Jr/Sr High School gym, the Blue Devils hosted Pierce during parent’s night.
Pierce defeated Wayne, 43-30 to improve to 8-3 while the Blue Devils fell to 4-9.
Pierce led 14-8 after the first and added to their lead to go up 23-13 at the break. The Bluejays then outscored WHS 9-8 in the third and 11-9 in the fourth to win 43-30.
Sophomore Brooklyn Kruse paced Wayne in scoring with 12 points while senior Emily Longe and junior Rubie Klausen both finished with five points. Freshmen Kierah Haase and Katy Jones both added three points as junior Mikaela McManigal scored two points.
The Bluejays used a pair of double figure scorers from senior Kenzie Moeller with 15 points and sophomore Morgan Moeller adding 10 points. Junior Payten Simmons scored seven points, senior Faith Lubischer tallied six points and senior Abby Meier poured in five points.

The Wayne High girls will next join the Blue Devil boys on Saturday, January 9 hosting Boone Central. The JV girls and boys games will open the day while the varsity games are scheduled for 3:45 p.m. (girls) and 5:30 p.m. (boys) at the high school.
