WAYNE – With the volleyball season in the books, Mid State Conference All-Conference and Honorable Mention honorees were posted over the weekend.
According to a release from the conference, Wayne High had two All-conference members and two listed as honorable mention.
Senior Lauren Pick and junior Kiara Krusemark were tabbed All-Conference while juniors Sydney Redden and Rubie Klausen were both recognized as honorable mention.
Wayne High finished 24-9 this past season falling in the C1-5 District Final at Columbus Lakeview in five sets.
Pick led the team in kills with 490 (6.3 per set) as well as 26 blocks (17 solo) while adding 308 digs (3.9 per set). Krusemark averaged 9.1 set assists per set and finished with 805 assists on the season. Redden paced the team in digs with 497 (5.6 per set) and had 24 service aces. Klausen was second on the team in kills with 156 (1.8 per set), 22 service aces and 330 digs (3.8 per set).
Battle Creek and Norfolk Catholic led the All-Conference list with three individuals each, followed by Pierce and Wayne with two a piece as Crofton, Guardian Angels Central Catholic, Hartington Cedar Catholic and O’Neill all had one.
Of the 20 players recognized as honorable mention, GACC had four; O’Neill had three; Battle Creek, Crofton, HCC, Norfolk Catholic, Pierce and Wayne all had two and Boone Central had one.
In the Mid State Conference volleyball tournament from Norfolk Catholic High School on October 22: #1 Norfolk Catholic won in four sets over #2 Wayne in the finals, #3 Guardian Angles Central Catholic swept #5 Battle Creek in the third-place match while #7 Hartington Cedar Catholic swept #8 Crofton in the fifth-place match.
A trio of teams from the Mid State Conference qualified for state.
In Class C2, #3 Norfolk Catholic (25-8) swept #6 Superior and won in four sets over #2 Overton before falling in five sets to #1 Lutheran High Northeast during the finals. Also in C2, #7 GACC (16-11) suffered a loss in straight sets to Overton.
In Class D1, #7 Hartington Cedar Catholic (17-14) suffered a four-set loss to #2 Bruning Davenport/Shickley in the opening round.
