STANTON – With just a handful of regular season matches along with the conference tournament coming up in mid-October, the Wayne High volleyball team went back to work on the road Thursday where individual career records were set.
From Stanton Community Schools, WHS competed with the Mustangs.
Wayne High secured a road sweep over Stanton (25-15, 25-18, 25-19) picking up their eighth consecutive win. The Blue Devils are now 16-7 on the season while Stanton fell to 4-16.
The Wayne JV team also swept Stanton (25-17, 25-20).
In the match, Lauren Pick surpassed 1,500 kills and Kiara Krusemark is now over 2,000 set assists.
Other school records broken by Pick were kills in a match (36 against Chase County on November 2, 2019); kills in a season (550 – 2019) and kills in a career (1,516). For Krusemark she has set school records of assists in a match (58 against Battle Creek on October 29, 2019); assists in a season (1,013 – 2019) and assists in a career (2,005).
Pick paced the team with a double-double recording 17 kills and 20 digs followed by Emily Longe with nine kills. Rubie Klausen added five kills and seven digs; Reagan Backer finished with 11 digs and Sydney Redden had eight digs. Krusemark finished with 32 set assists. Service aces came from Mady Sievers with three, two by Klausen and one from Krusemark.
The Wayne High volleyball team will next compete in the Pierce Triangular along with Boone Central on Tuesday, October 6.
