Pender Scores Go-Ahead Run In Sixth Inning To Secure Home Victory

PENDER – Ralph Bishop League play continued for the Wakefield Post 81 Juniors entering the weekend.

From Dave Nitzschke Field in Pender, Pender Post 55 welcomed in the Wakefield Post 81 Juniors on Friday.

In a back-and-forth game, the Pender Juniors were able to hold off Post 81, 4-3. Wakefield drops to 1-1 while the Pender Juniors remain undefeated (record not provided).

Wakefield opened scoring with a run in the first inning while Pender answered with a run in the home half of the second. Post 55 then took the lead thanks to a single run in the fourth. Wakefield scored twice in the top of the sixth to regain the lead at 3-2 before Post 55 added two of their own runs in the home half of the sixth to win 4-3.

Wakefield scored their three runs on a combination of walks, stolen bases, passed balls and squeeze bunt plays.

Post 81 runs came from Adrian Flores, Eliseo Sarmiento and Mason Lamprecht.

Pierce Paulson and Michael Comy both recorded two hits as Comy drove in the go-ahead run in the home half of the sixth inning.

The pitching staff for the Pender Juniors combined for a no-hitter.

The Wakefield Post 81 Juniors will next host South Sioux City at 7 p.m. while Pender Post 55 will entertain West Point at 5:30/8 p.m. both on Wednesday, June 1.
