Omaha South Snaps Wayne High Winning Streak, Rally In The Sixth

OMAHA – With a weekend invite slated for Saturday, the Wayne High baseball team continued a series of road games this week on Thursday.

From John Stella Field in Omaha, the Blue Devils visited Class A Omaha South.

Thanks to a three-run sixth inning, Omaha South held onto a 4-3 victory which ended their four-game losing streak to now sit 8-13 on the season. The Blue Devils also had their seven-game winning streak (last loss was April 2) end falling to 10-5.

Neither team scored in the opening two innings until Wayne High produced two runs in the third. Following a scoreless fourth, both team teams put a run across the plate in the fifth which favored Wayne, 3-1. Omaha South then posted a three-run sixth inning in the home half of the sixth. Final favored Omaha South, 4-3 as Wayne High won the hit department, 5-3 and both teams finished with three errors.

Devin Anderson recorded three singles and scored twice while Aiden Liston singled and drove in a run for Wayne. Gavin Redden singled and scored as James Dorcey accounted for two RBI.

James Dorcey (16 pitches) suffered the loss in the final inning allowing three earned runs off three hits. Wyatt Heikes (88 pitches) had a no-hitter through the opening five innings allowing one run while striking out four batters and walking three.

The Wayne High baseball team will next compete in the Seward Invite on Saturday, April 23. Joining WHS will be Malcolm, the co-op of Central City/Fullerton/Centura and the host Seward.
