OAKLAND – With only six wrestlers competing, the Winside Wildcats placed runner-up in this past weekend’s Oakland-Craig Invite.
From Oakland-Craig Public Schools, a total of 17 wrestling programs took part in the Saturday invitational.
O’Neill won the invite with 222 points, followed by Winside in second with 145.5 points, Norfolk Catholic placed third with 143 points, Cross County/Osceola took fourth with 115 points and Malcolm rounded out the top five teams with 108.5 points.
Ponca placed 12th with 67 points, Quad County Northeast (Randolph/LCC) finished 13th with 65 points, Hartington Cedar Catholic came in 14th with 44.5 points and Tri County Northeast (Allen/Emerson-Hubbard) rounded out the area teams with a 16th place finish (13 pts).
Winside champions came from Cayden Ellis (120) and Art Escalante (138) while Cooper Behmer (113), Jacoby Mann (126) and Gabe Escalante (145) all placed second. Mason Topp (182) took fourth.
The Winside Wildcat wrestling program will next compete in the Weeping Water Invite scheduled for Tuesday, January 26 at 4 p.m. This event was rescheduled from Janaury 15.
