OAKLAND – A handful of area wrestlers were back in action for a weekend invite.
From Oakland-Craig high school, the Oakland-Craig Invite featured 18 teams Saturday.
Top results saw Logan View win the invite with 225 points, Conestoga followed in runner-up with 207 points, both Cross Country/Osceola and Howells-Dodge tied for third with 116 points, Yutan took fifth with 110.5 points and Winside rounded out the top six teams with 104.5 points.
Other team scoring came from West Point-Beemer (seventh – 95.5), Oakland-Craig (eighth – 81), North Bend Central (ninth – 71), Hartington Cedar Catholic (10th – 66), Norfolk Catholic (11th – 64), Winnebago (12th – 49), Wakefield-Allen (13th – 47), Ponca and Quad County Northeast (T-14th – 45), GACC (16th -38.5), Pender (17th – 12) and Cedar Bluffs (18th – 3).
Top Winside wrestlers were Cayden Ellis (113) and Art Escalante (132) winning their divisions, Gabe Escalante (138) took second, Matthew Frederick (126) placed third and Maddox Magwire (132) finished fourth. Tyler Carlson (145) and Mason Topp (170) both finished sixth.
Cedar Catholic: Eric Hoesing (170) won his weight class, Kerby Hochstein (138) placed fourth, Nash Albers (132) took fifth and Jacob Keiser (195) finished sixth.
Wakefield-Allen: Caleb Chase (120) placed fourth, Wyatt Verzani (145) took fifth and Gabriel Lamprecht (132) finished sixth.
Ponca: Dalton Anderson (126) took second, Hunter Bennett (160) finished fourth and Sam Taylor (126) placed fifth.
Quad County Northeast: Tie Hollandsworth (145) placed third while Nolan Ohlrich (152) and Fischer Carson (285) both took sixth.
Pender: Zachery Randall (152) placed fifth.
The Winside wrestling team will next host Wayne High in dual competition on Tuesday, January 28 at 7 p.m.
