WAYNE – As the battle for the top All-Sports NSIC team continues, officials with the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference updated the 2021-22 standings through the winter sports season.

According to a release from the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota, the NSIC will recognize an overall champion along with a men’s and women’s champion.

Augustana University leads in the overall and men’s standings with 11 of the 18 NSIC championships in the books. The Vikings were champions in men’s basketball, second in men’s and women’s indoor track & field and wrestling, were third in swimming & diving and seventh in women’s basketball during the winter sports season.

Minnesota State-Mankato was second in the overall standings and leads the women’s standings. Minnesota State-Mankato earned 16 points for taking home the women’s indoor track & field title and 10 points for winning swimming and diving. The Mavericks women’s basketball team also earned 14 points for finishing third overall.

Wayne State College currently sits 11th with 66 points in the overall standings. Broken down, men’s teams from WSC are eighth with 30 points while Wildcat women’s teams are 11th with 36 points.

The NSIC All Sports Award is calculated by awarding the winner of each conference-sponsored championship points totaling the number of teams in that sport plus one. The next place finisher receives points totaling the number of teams less the number of places from first place. Ties in the standings at any level shall result in the totaling of points and equal distribution.

The NSIC All-Sports Champions will be announced following the spring season, with the awards being presented at the NSIC Summer Kickoff in Moorhead, Minnesota in July.

There were no awards issued the last two years due COVID-shortened and canceled seasons in 2019-20 and 2020-21 years. Minnesota State-Mankato has been crowned champion of the overall and men’s NSIC All-Sports Team while Augustana been named the Women’s team champs back-to-back years in 2017-18 as well as 2018-19.
