LINCOLN – High school girls basketball teams took part in the 2019 NSAA State Basketball Tournament over a three-day period.
State champions were crowned at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln this past Saturday.
The top northeast Nebraska team came from #7 Wynot in Class D2. The Blue Devils opened with an upset win over #2 Humphrey St. Francis (45-44); downed #3 Bruning-Davenport/Shickley (53-40) and held off #1 Falls City Sacred Heart (39-38). Wynot finished 22-6, winners of their last eight games.
Class C2 third place went to #4 Oakland-Craig over #3 Filmore Central (68-60).
Another area team went to #2 Crofton who lost to #1 Hastings St. Cecilia in the C2 championship game, 63-45.
Class A champion: #5 Millard North defeated #6 Lincoln Southwest (64-57); Class B #6 Northwest downed #4 Crete (49-43); Class C1 #2 Bishop Neumann defeated #5 Lincoln Christian (45-29) while Class D1 #4 Archbishop Bergan defeated #3 Dundy County-Stratton (36-27).
Boys state basketball teams will take part in their tournament games this Thursday, March 7 – Saturday, March 9.
