NSAA Fall Sports Practices Begin Monday, Blue Devil Varsity Events To Start Later This Month

WAYNE – With Nebraska high school fall sporting contests to take over at the end of the month, the middle of the month marks the first official NSAA practices.

On Monday, August 12, high school students competing in boys tennis, cross country, football, girls golf, softball and volleyball will begin their fall practice schedule across the state.

The Wayne High football team went 3-6 last season dropping their final three games. This year, WHS will open their 2019 schedule at a C1 semifinalist team being Wahoo on Friday, August 30 at 7 p.m. Five of the nine teams Wayne will face this season qualified for the Class C1 playoffs (Arlington, West Point-Beemer and Pierce) with two making it to the semi’s (Wahoo and Bishop Neumann).

The game will be aired on The City ‘KCTY’ 98.9/1590 and online at waynedailynews.com with pregame coverage set for 6:45 p.m. A complete fall broadcast schedule for Wayne High, Wayne State and area schools will be posted later this week.

The Blue Devil volleyball team will begin their season on Thursday, August 22 with a jamboree contest at Wisner-Pilger before starting the 2019 schedule at Ponca at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 29. WHS is coming off a 25-10 season and qualifying for the C1 state tournament after falling to the defending C1 champions Wahoo in the opening round in straight sets.

Following a 35-0 season and a Class C state title, the Wayne High softball team is back in Class B. The Blue Devils will begin their season also with a jamboree hosting Norfolk High at 5:30 p.m. this Thursday, August 15. WHS will open their NSAA schedule at Blair on Thursday, August 22 at 6:30 p.m. before hosting their own tournament on Saturday, August 24. Teams joining Wayne will be Arlington, Centura/Central Valley, Highway 91, Ord, Pierce, Ponca and Twin River starting at 9:30 a.m.

WHS girls golf will begin their season at the West Point-Beemer invite from the Indian Trails Country Club on Friday, August 23. Wayne will also host their first of four home contests at the Wayne Country Club on Friday, August 30.

For the Wayne High girls and boys cross country teams they’ll first compete on Friday, September 6 at the Boone Central/Newman Grove Invite. Their lone home event will be on Monday, September 16 at 4:30 p.m. from the Wayne Country Club.

The Blue Devil Booster Club – Fall Sports Tailgate is scheduled for Friday, August 23 at 7 p.m. in the high school parking lot.
