WAYNE – Fall sports at Wayne Community Schools started Monday just like it did for all high schools across the state.
Fall sports at Wayne include girls and boys cross country, girls golf, softball, volleyball and football. Volleyball, softball and girls golf will see action as early as next week.
The Wayne High volleyball team will open with a Varsity Jamboree on Thursday, August 16 at 6 p.m. visiting Wisner-Pilger before the season officially starts on Thursday, August 23 at 7:45 p.m. hosting Ponca. Next Thursday will also mark the start for the varsity softball team hosting Blair at 6:45 p.m. from the Summer Sports Complex. WHS will then host a tournament on Saturday, August 18 starting at 9:30 a.m. featuring teams such as Arlington, Centura/Central Valley, Clarkson-Leigh, Ord, Pierce, Ponca and Twin River.
On Friday, August 17 the varsity girls golf team will open their season at the Indian Trails Country Club in Beemer for the West Point-Beemer Invite.
The Wayne High football team is set to open their season on Friday, August 24 hosting a team who knocked them out of the playoffs last year, of Wahoo. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. from Bob Cunningham Field. This season catch all Blue Devil football games on either KTCH or KCTY.
Also, the girls and boys cross country season will get underway on Friday, August 31 during the Boone Central/Newman Grove Invite at the Albion Country Club at 4:30 p.m.

Mark your calendars for the annual Blue Devil Booster Club Fall Sports Tailgate on Friday, August 17. Starting at 7 p.m., the event will take place in the west parking lot where coaches will talk about the upcoming season and athletes will introduce themselves. More information will be released closer to the actual event.
