Northeast Nebraska Eight-Man Showdown, Wayne High Football On The Road

ALBION/WAKEFIELD – Week seven of the high school football season will feature key district games for several area teams.

Friday night’s high school football broadcast schedule will be highlighted by a northeast Nebraska showdown in Class D1 between eight-man football teams of Wakefield vs. Laurel-Concord-Coleridge as Class C1 Wayne High visits Boone Central. Both games will kick off at 7 p.m.

After dropping four straight to open the season, Wakefield has rattled off back-to-back wins outscoring their opponents 136-82 to now sit 2-4 on the season.

For Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, they have strung three straight wins together after their season-low in scoring loss to Stanton (11-8). The Bears recently won at Plainview, 58-8 last week.

The Bears remained #10 in the Class D1 Lincoln Journal Star rankings and moved up a spot to #8 in the Omaha World Herald poll.

Last year, Wakefield edged Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, 30-24 in Laurel.

For Wayne High, they recently suffered their second loss in the past three weeks after opening the year on a three-game winning streak to now sit 4-2. WHS suffered an 18-14 loss to a top ranked Class C2 team of Norfolk Catholic on the home turf last week.

The Blue Devils fell three spots to #9 in the Class C1 Lincoln Journal Star rankings and fell three spots to #10 in the Omaha World Herald poll while Boone Central remained #3 in both rankings.

Next up for Wayne is, Boone Central who has won six straight to open the year. The Cardinals recently won at Battle Creek, 13-0 after edging the Class C1 defending champions of Pierce, 35-33 the week prior in Albion.

Last year, Wayne High topped Boone Central, 38-27 in Wayne.
