Northeast Nebraska Boys Golf Teams Shine During C3 District Meet

BATTLE CREEK – As yesterday and today are meant for District Boys Golf competition, several area schools opened the week as state qualifiers.

From Fair Play Golf Course in Battle Creek, Hartington Cedar Catholic was the top team shooting a 309 to be crowned District Champions. Finishing runner-up came from Creighton with a 313 just ahead of host, Battle Creek who also qualified their team with a 318.

Class C3 District

Finishing just on the outside were Ponca with a 336 to place fourth, Norfolk Catholic took fifth with a 349, Pierce came in sixth with a 352 and Laurel-Concord-Coleridge shot a 362 to rounded out the top seven teams. Other team scores came from BRLD (eighth – 365), Lutheran High Northeast (ninth – 395), Wisner-Pilger (10th – 397), Wakefield (11th – 412) and Crofton (12th – 459). No team scores were recorded for Ainsworth, Bloomfield or Niobrara/Verdigre.

Creighton had the top golfer being senior Chase Largen who shot one-under par (71), followed by Hartington Cedar Catholic’s senior Matthew Shaefer in second with a 73 and sophomore Luke Stueve of Battle Creek shot a 74 to place third.

Other top 10 finishers who qualified for Class C State included senior Jarret Cerny of Norfolk Catholic who tied for fifth with freshman Rockney Peck of Wisner-Pilger each with a 76. Pierce’s senior Dyson Roth also qualified tying for 10th with an 80.

The 2018 Class C NSAA Boys Golf Championships are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, May 22-23 from the Kearney Country Club. Tee time each day will start at 9:30 a.m.
