Norling, Busse Tabbed With CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

WAYNE – As the Wayne State women prepare for their first round of the conference tournament, a pair of basketball players were recently recognized for their performances both on the court and in the classroom.

According to a release from the Wayne State Athletics office, Wildcat juniors Erin Norling and Halley Busse were named to the 2019-20 Academic All-District VII Women’s Basketball Team selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). Norling received First Team honors for a second straight season while Busse earned Second Team honors.

With her First Team selection, Norling now advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot with honorees to be announced in mid-March. Other NSIC members who are First Team include Sioux Falls teammates Jacey Huinker and Kaley Hummel, Megan Hintz of MSU Moorhead and Abby Hora of Augustana.

Norling, a 5-11 junior forward from Loretto, Minnesota, carries a 3.96 cumulative grade point average majoring in biology/pre-physician assistant. On the court this season, she leads Wayne State in scoring (19.9) and rebounding (8.0) while ranking second in the NSIC in scoring and fifth in rebounding. She was also an Academic All-District VII First Team selection last season as a sophomore.

Busse, a 5-5 junior point guard from Winthrop, Minnesota, maintains a 3.97 grade point average majoring in physical education. She is averaging 14.3 points a game this season for the Wildcats, ranking ninth in the NSIC and is fifth in the league with 3.9 assists per game.

The Wayne State College women’s basketball team will open the 2020 NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament as the #7 seed in the south division and visit N2 St. Cloud State on Wednesday, February 26 at 6 p.m. WSC won in St. Cloud 79-58 on February 7. The ‘Cats will look to snap a five-game losing streak after finishing the regular season 16-12 (11-11 NSIC).
