NORFOLK – As programs across the country look to prepare for a possible return to collegiate sports, a community college in northeast Nebraska released their basketball along with soccer schedules.
According to a release from the Hawks Athletic Department, basketball will be back on the court in 2021 in mid-January while soccer is scheduled to open their season in early April.
The Northeast Community College men’s and women’s basketball teams revealed their schedules on October 8, with the first contest slated for January 20, 2021 against Ellsworth Community College at 5 and 7 p.m. at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk. Both programs are scheduled to play 21 games with the Region XI Tournament scheduled for April 3 – 6; District Tournament April 9-10 and National Tournament April 19 – 24 (women’s in Lubbock, TX/men’s in Hutchinson, KS).
Both the Northeast Community College soccer programs will play 14 matches beginning on April 2, 2021.
The Northeast women’s soccer team is coming off their best season in program history while the men’s team hopes to see improvement from start to finish with a young and talented field of players. The Hawks will visit Iowa Western Community College at 1/3 p.m. in early April to open their season.
The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) announced on July 15 that all athletic contests were being moved from the fall to the spring, due to COVID-19. The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) changed the conference format for this spring to include every conference opponent playing each other twice throughout the season. All conference games will count towards each teams’ conference record.
