Mid State Conference Volleyball Finals Set Between Top Two Teams

NORFOLK – With back-to-back nights of Mid State Conference volleyball action in the books, the finals are set for Thursday.

From Norfolk Catholic High School, #2 Wayne competed with #3 Guardian Angels Central Catholic Tuesday evening.

Wayne High posted their third sweep of the season over the Bluejays winning in straight sets (25-15, 26-24, 25-14). WHS has now won 14 straight to improve to 22-7 while GACC fell to 13-9.

Lauren Pick recorded a double-double with 26 kills and 15 digs to go along with two blocks (one solo) while Emily Longe added eight kills. Sydney Redden led the team in digs with 27 and had one kill; Reagan Backer tallied 13 digs and Rubie Klausen finished with 11 digs and three kills. Kiara Krusemark came away with 38 set assists, seven digs and a kill. Mady Sievers also had four kills as Kate Hill had a kill.

Reagan Backer posted two service aces while Pick, Klausen and Redden all had an ace as Krusemark also had a block.

In the earlier match, #1 Norfolk Catholic swept #5 Battle Creek (25-18, 25-20, 25-10). The Knights are now 20-6 while Battle Creek fell to 19-8.

Loser’s bracket results: #8 Crofton won in five sets over #4 O’Neill (25-19, 17-25, 25-22, 16-25, 15-13) and #7 Hartington Cedar Catholic swept #6 Pierce (25-15, 25-23, 29-27) from Battle Creek High School.

Finals will open from Norfolk Catholic High School at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 22 with the fifth-place match being #7 Cedar Catholic vs. #8 Crofton; the third-place match #3 GACC vs. #5 Battle Creek at 6 p.m. and the championship match #1 Norfolk Catholic vs. #2 Wayne at 7:30 p.m.

#4 O’Neill, #6 Pierce and #9 Boone Central will all meet for a triangular on Thursday at a site to be determined by the highest seed.
