HARTINGTON – After being rescheduled due to weather from Saturday, nine Mid State Conference schools competed in an invitational to open the week.
From the Hartington Sports Complex, the Mid State Conference Meet was held Monday morning.
Pierce edged Battle Creek in the girls division (108-104), Hartington Cedar Catholic placed third with 80 points, Norfolk Catholic fourth with 60 points and O’Neill rounded out the top five teams with 48 points. Boone Central/Newman Grove (40), Crofton (34), GACC (33) and Wayne High (20) closed out team scoring.
The Blue Devil 400-meter relay placed third (54.88) while the 3200-meter relay took fourth (11:12.17).
Individually, Gabi Meyer took third in the 800-meter run (2:33.89) and Kendall Dorey placed fourth in the 100-meter dash (13.58).
From the boys division, Norfolk Catholic was the top team with 131 points followed by Pierce with 105 points. Crofton took third with 58 points, Battle Creek fourth with 56 points and Cedar Catholic closed out the top five teams with 48 points. Other team results came from BC/NG (45), Wayne (29), GACC (28) and O’Neill (27).
A pair of second place marks paced the WHS boys from Cody Rogers in the long jump (20’ ¾”) and Kaden Kneifl during the discus (155’ 2”).
Aaron Reynolds took fourth in the 400-meter dash (55.02) and fourth during the long jump (19’ 7”) while Mike Leatherdale finished fourth in the shot put (50’ 5”).
Israel Rodriguez finished sixth in the triple jump (37’ 11”).
The Wayne High girls and boys track & field team will next compete in the Battle Creek Invite on Thursday, May 2 at 2 p.m. Districts for WHS will be held in Columbus next Thursday, May 9 at 11 a.m. from Pawnee Park/Memorial Field with state competition Friday, May 17 – Saturday, May 18 at Omaha Burke.
