ALBION – Eight varsity girls golf programs competed during their conference outing in early October.
From the Albion Country Club, Battle Creek held off Norfolk Catholic (388-405) to be crowned Mid State Conference champions. Hartington Cedar Catholic placed third with a 426, the host Boone Central/Newman Grove finished fourth with a 444, Pierce placed fifth (451), O’Neill (sixth – 453), Wayne High (seventh – 493) and Crofton (eighth – 795).
Individually, Abby Brodersen of BC/NG shot the low 18-hole score with an 86 followed by Anna Kassmeier of Norfolk Catholic in second with a 90.
Natalie Bentjen of Wayne shot a 109 to place 14th as Cassidy Manz finished 30th with a 125. Riley Haschke was right behind in 31st (127), Bailee Leise (33rd – 132) and Jayden Calhoon (38th – 164) rounded out Blue Devil results.
The Wayne High girls golf team will next compete in the C-3 districts from Fair Play Golf Course hosted by Battle Creek on Monday, October 7
