Men’s Rugby Quarterfinal Action Saturday, Two 7-On-7 Women’s Matches To Be Played

WAYNE – After closing out the 2017 season on a strong note, the Wayne State College men’s club rugby program is one step away from advancing to the National Semifinals of 15-on-15 rugby.

Whether you are a fan of Wayne State College, a supportive community member or just want to see contact without the pads make plans to visit the House of Pain Rugby pitch near the Softball Complex on east 4th Street this weekend. There is no admission to all Wildcat rugby games.

The National Small Collegiate Rugby Organization (NSCRO) quarterfinals are scheduled for Saturday, March 24 at 2:15 between WSC and LeTourneau University of Longview, Texas.

The winner of the West (Region 3) of either the Wildcats or Yellow Jackets will advance to face the champion from the Pacific Coast (Region 4) where Humboldt State is the #1 seed. The National Championship will be held from Founders Field in Cheswick, Pennsylvania on Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22.

The other half of the bracket has been already set and will feature University of New Haven (Region 1 – East Coast) vs. John Carroll University (Region 2 – Central).

Also, since the Wildcat women have won the 15’s Fall Championship in 2017, they’ll be gearing up for their 7-on-7 run. The LETU women’s team will battle the Wildcat women’s 7-on-7 team before and after the men’s quarterfinal 15’s match.

Both women’s and men’s., 15’s and 7’s teams joining Wayne State College include Colorado State, Marquette, Michigan Tech, Manitoba University (Canada) and Lewis (Illinois) just to name a few.
