LAUREL/PONCA – The top four teams in the Lewis & Clark Conference competed against the pool play winners Monday evening during tourney play.
From Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Winside advanced past Pool B champion Hartington-Newcastle (25-19, 25-21) but it was Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (Pool C champion) winning in straight sets over the Wildcats (25-18, 25-22, 25-20). With the split Winside is now 12-12.
In the victory over HNS, Kati Topp recorded 10 kills and four solo blocks while Brooklyn Behmer had 12 set assists and four digs for Winside. McKenna Russell added seven set assists and three kills; Hope Cummins posted six kills and five digs; Jackie Escalante tallied five digs and two aces as Ashelyn Abler had five digs.
During the loss to LCC, Behmer finished with 15 set assists, 15 digs and eight kills while Topp had seven kills, five solo blocks and five digs. Cummins tacked on seven kills and 10 digs; Russell recorded 11 set assists and eight kills as Escalante also came away with 10 digs.
LCC opened Monday night by defeating Randolph (25-20, 25-11) as the Bears are now 16-10 on the season and have won five straight.
In Ponca, Wynot defeated Pool D champion Tri County Northeast (25-17, 25-18) and Ponca (Pool A champion) topped Wausa (25-7, 25-22). The consolation match favored Wausa over the Wolfpack (23-25, 25-16, 25-17) as Ponca advances to Tuesday’s championship match following a five-set victory over Wynot (26-24, 20-25, 25-23, 15-25, 15-9).
The Lewis & Clark Conference Tournament will open Tuesday, October 20 at 5:30 p.m. at Laurel-Concord-Coleridge with Winside facing Wynot in the third-place match followed by the championship match will featuring LCC vs. Ponca.
