Lewis & Clark Championship Results, Ponca Teams Split

HARTINGTON – Originally scheduled from LCC Schools in Laurel, the Lewis & Clark Conference championship basketball games were played at Cedar Catholic High School in Hartington to open the week.

Following a play-in game for the boys on January 31 and first round action for the girls beginning on February 1, two teams entered Monday evening in each division looking for the conference title.

During the girls game, #1 Wynot avenged their loss to #2 Ponca by defeating the Indians 53-50.

Wynot took the early first quarter lead of 13-11 and outscored Ponca 23-12 in the second. The Blue Devils led 36-23 at half. Ponca then mounted a comeback of 14-9 in the third and 16-5 in the fourth but fell short by three points.

Wynot improves to 18-3 on the season while Ponca fell to 17-3.

The two teams met in Wynot on January 30 where Ponca won 38-37.

 

In the boys contest, #1 Laurel-Concord-Coleridge finished strong in the final quarter to defeat #3 Ponca, 66-56.

LCC used an 18-8 opening quarter to start the game before Ponca pulled back with a 22-12 second. Both teams were tied at 30 going into the locker room. The Indians then took a lead into the fourth thanks to a 17-11 third but it was the Bears coming back in the final quarter, 25-9.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge improves to 18-4 while Ponca fell to 17-3.

Earlier this season, LCC defeated Ponca 67-42 in Laurel.
