LCC Football Begins Season At Homer Friday Night

HOMER – Just over a month after the Nebraska Shrine Bowl football game was played for the top outgoing seniors, returning programs will look to start off the 2020 fall season on a strong note.

A handful of week zero games are on the schedule for Friday, August 21 including a northeast Nebraska showdown between Laurel-Concord-Coleridge and Homer.

Other games on the NSAA schedule for Friday feature Cross County at Blue Hill, Hastings at Lincoln North Star and Sandy Creek at Schuyler.

LCC finished 5-4 following a 60-26 opening round Class D1 playoff loss to Cross County last year. Homer improved their record from 1-7 to 4-5 between 2018 and 2019 which included a trip to the Class D1 playoffs but the Knights dropped a 52-12 opening round game to Howells-Dodge.

It’s been a couple years since the two teams have met as Homer won the last meeting 39-26 in Homer while LCC won on their home field 38-34 in 2016.

Attendance at Homer is 75% of capacity which will be limited to 450 people. Homer officials are asking that all attendees social distance in the bleachers and throughout the football complex. Masks are strongly recommended. Masks will be required to use the restrooms and purchase items from the concession stand as workers will be wearing masks and gloves. Vehicle parking along the fence line will be expanded and reserved for adults 60 and older.

There’ll also be a tailgate prior to the game as the Homer Junior class will be serving pulled pork sandwiches, bag of chips, a dessert and a water for $6. Supper lasts from 5:30 p.m. until the food is gone. Masks will be required when going through the tailgate line.
