Late Run Production Allows Kelly’s To Edge Dirt Devil 10s

WAYNE – The Dirt Devil 10 & Under softball team was back in action to open their first home game of the season Tuesday evening.

From the Summer Sports Complex, Wayne played host to the Norfolk Kelly’s.

Both teams got on the board with a run in the first inning before the Dirt Devils used a 5-1 second inning to lead 6-2. Kelly’s then answered with their own 5-1 third inning before outscoring Wayne 3-1 in the fourth to win 10-8. The Dirt Devil 10s are now 1-4 on the season.

Joslyn Johnson paced the Dirt Devil 10s at the plate with a single and two RBI as Aubrey Russell singled and drove in a run. Lily Gubbels picked up two RBI while Nyla Bolles and Makenna Mattison both added a RBI. Mackenzie Nissen and Charlie Sievers both singled.

Nissen worked three innings in the circle allowing four runs (two earned) off of four hits while striking out seven batters and walking two. Sievers worked two-thirds allowing five earned runs off of one hit while striking out two batters and walking another five.

The Dirt Devil 14s had their home double header with the Golden Girls cancelled while no results were posted for the Dirt Devil 12s road game at Highway 91.

Upcoming Dirt Devil softball games will be for the 10s on Thursday, May 31 at West Point1 and West Point 2 at 6/7:30 p.m. while the Dirt Devil 12s will host West Point 1 at 6:30 p.m. from the Summer Sports Complex.
